I broke my vow of not going to see one night shows having been let down so often with the promise of appearances of artists who then dont appear. Jerry was ill and we all know hes not in the best of health and just wish him better. "Angie" was wonderful. Miss Cook just went totally down in my estimation - dont agree to let your name be published if you are going to pull out if something better comes along. Lynn did put the reason being due to the death of her manager but is that going to stop her being in the Gershwin tribute at the RAH? Sorry Lynn but I dont swallow that one. Such a pity when one remembers that WONDERFUL one nighter of Mack and Mabel at Drury Lane with Georgia Brown, Tommy Tune, Dennis Quilly etc etc. Still it was for a good cause but think I would have rather paid the cash direct rather than having hopes raised then dashed. But it WAS good to dress up in black tie!!

RE: The worst of times

oops !sorry Lynne.............forgot the e! thats what comes with bashing it out and not reading it properly! Can we have spell check on here Damon?!!!!

RE: The worst of times

Don't worry, I've been called worse! But a preview and submit button would be useful.

Hear hear! This seems a standard feature on all other boards.

Re the Jerry Herman show - I feel I had a narrow escape as I really wanted to go to this but couldn't. It doesn't sound as if I missed much. Looking forward now to next Tuesday and "Chess" at the RAH.

RE: The worst of times

The night was ok but a disapointment on what was originally promised and no real explanations in advance or at all for Barbara which irritates the hell out of me! I called earlier for greater transparency and would repeat that call. Wont support any more of these nights. It was good to hear Jerrys new work and it sounded terrific.
So far as this site is concerned spell check too please!!!!!
Cant wait for Chess either - very excited - a TOTALLY packed RAH with musical theatre fans has to be great fun.
Are they selling standing tickets in the Gods? Did it once up there for a prom when I was a LOT younger and it was a long long way up! And I'm there on Monday with great seats in the raised stalls. If I get time I will post report on here!

RE: The worst of times

Going Monday night also and really looking forward to it. Expect some screaming though as I hear the Idina fans will be there "en masse" and apparantly they are quite vocal. Did you hear that she is also doing a one off concert at the Vauderville theatre next week. I phoned for tickets and was told that it sold out in 29 minutes without advertising.
Just one last note on the Jerry Herman show as the fiasco has probably been milked to death by now. Overheard 2 people sitting near me say "hope there are some Sondheim songs in the show". Also an argument in front of me. One couple said the first time they saw Daniel Evans was at the Donmar in Candide and the other couple saying that he has never done Candide at the Donmar. I think they got confused with Merrily. Does anyoone know the answer?

I think they were confused. The first time I also saw Daniel was as Candide - but it was at the National Theatre. I then saw him a year or so later as Charley in Merrily at the Donmar. (He was brilliant in both!)
